One-year-old house

Yes, as of 10am tomorrow morning, the House of Fortune will have been up and running for a whole year, by far the longest I've ever kept to one writing project. A good reason to celebrate. As my blog is a product of my Denmark experience, here is its Danish birthday cake, marked with a liberal presence of Danebrog (the Danish flag, traditional marker of birthdays and other festive events). Please help yourself to a slice.

  1. Happy Anniversary House of Fortune!

Kimananda, I have had complete faith in your abilities the whole time. I knew that you’d put up an intelligent, professional, and interesting site, and that you’d be able to maintain it for a very long time. I also knew that, with time, the site would take on your personality and when the good people of the world found it, it would flourish. Now, I have to go and pay off a couple of gambling debts.

  9. Mr. American, thanks! And you don't have to steal a Danebrog, you should have one or two with your cake slice.

Fourlegged, thanks! And, the check's, um, in the mail!

Roro, no herring, though after the first piece, I started removing that layer of gelatin, which was good but a bit too sweet.

James, thanks! It is actually pretty brilliant, isn't it?

Maddy, thank you. :-) And I would recomment virtual coffee with this cake. ;-)

Nabeel, yep, it looks pretty red and white at a birthday party. My blog got a fairly subdued cake by Danish standards.

    David, thanks!

Ms. Black Scorpio, thanks! And you can still e-mail me your address, but not sms...my phone doesn't work here.

Morose, thank you! I hope you'll accept this glass of virtual champagne.

Fitena, you sing beautifully. :-) And the flags are plastic...they're just there for decoration. The rest of the cake is for eating...well, it was. It's all gone now.

    Jackt, thank you! I'm overwhelmed!

    Helen, thank you!

  12. Yummy!! :)
I'm surprised because many of the blogs I visit were created at the same time, including mine. It makes me think that we all had some kind of telepathy that lead us to start blogging and meet. Que lindo! ;)

  14. If the US had passed the Flag Desecration Amendment...we wouldn't be able to put little American flags on cakes without wondering: Is this a desecration?

Happy blog year anniversary...you and Sangroncito must have synchronized your watches as he just had his anniversary too. Alas he's leaving us...

  24. Vanessa, thanks! It was actually quite good.

Lil Bit, thanks for the return visit!

Ms. Mood, I've noticed that, too. É de facto muito lindo!

Morose, no, no paint thinner, just good akvavit. Skaal!

Bryan, mmmm...black forest cake...I'd love the recipe!

Mary, I hadn't thought of that, but you are absolutely right! And I read more than one blog which has, like Sangroncito' World, been retired after the 1-year mark. As for mine, I feel I'm just now beginning to hit my stride.

Chloe, thanks! I look forward to that too! :-)

    Anonymous, you're welcome!

Erin, thank you and you're welcome!

Meow, thanks! I hope your week is good as well...mine has been quite interesting, in a good way.

    Neil, awwww...now I'm blushing.
    ;-)

Jack, thanks! And I'm not convinced there is fruit north of Germany either. Except strawberries. Danish strawberries are really good.

Daphnewood, thank you and you're welcome! And...goddess of endurance. I'll have to think about that one.

    Etchen, thank you!

Connie, thanks, and I hope you like the virtual cake!

Marion, thank you! And, my condolences to you for yesterday's game. As you can imagine, my whole schedule is geared around Portugal-France. I'm hopeful, but not optimistic.

    Sangroncito, thank you!

Ms. Black Scorpio, any excuse for a picnic and fireworks, I'd say.
    :-)

    Day, yeah! :-)
