Tarot time

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

This tarot quiz, which I couldn't pass up, was found over at Daphnewood's, soon after finally clueing in to podcasting. Yes, it takes me a while to get hooked on new technology. My favorite podcast so far is the Skeptic's Guide to the Universe, which is very informative and entertaining. And, this being me, and the opportunity being there, I'm listening to them all in order. Sad, I know. So, I'm on episode 23 (from last December). They're up to episode 71. After several days of at least two or three episodes a day, the skeptical viewpoint is pretty firmly in the forefront of my mind.

I can't help but feel that the two topics, of skepticism and tarot, are a strange juxtaposition. I don't actually know why I should feel that...I have, at times, read tarot before, and see absolutely nothing paranormal or spiritual in them. They're wonderful for contemplating possible future action, or for inspiring discussion. And I would like to think that I am a skeptic, especially with regard to scientific issues (as opposed to social science issues, where my stance diverges a bit).

I don't think that there is a contradiction. But yet, I forever feel the need to defend my tarot history anyway. I'll stop myself from doing that more, and instead just post the quiz. This card has always been one of my favorites, and was one of the cards I most identified with when I got my first deck (a Rider-Waite, when I was about 12). I don't know if it reflects the real me in any way, but I wouldn't mind. I'm curious to know what you get as your card, and if you feel it represents the you which exists, or perhaps the you which you would like to become.

I'm The Magician

Skill, wisdom, adaptation. Craft, cunning, depending on dignity.

Eleoquent and charismatic both verbally and in writing, you are clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.

Hmmm. I'm not sure what I'm looking at here. Does your application of this, uh, magic work like those Brian Eno cards, whatchacallit, Oblique Stragedies?

Oh, and lunch next week or coffee or whatever sounds good, 'cept for the 13th.

kimananda sagde ...

Yep, that's us, two commenters that pass in the blogosphere...how about the 14th then? I'll e-mail to confirm when I get in on the 12th.

And I think it sounds like you...what do you think?

I guess some parts are true, particularly the flattering bits.

I do have a long snowy beard and a pet crow, so maybe.

14th, loverly. In the city?

Only at the end of the post did I link the tarot to the name of your blog and it fits :)
I have a tarot deck too, I got it in a woman's magazine but it's been useful exactly for what you mentioned: contemplating the future. But unlike you, I always wanted to believe that there was a magical thing going on there and that the cards could really tell me my future. lol
I haven't done that in a long time, I'm more into Astrology now.

The quiz is nice because it mixes symbols and astrology too. I am the Wheel of Fortune - they must have assumed I'm lucky because I'm a Saggitarius...lol

i'm the empress, very close to the priestess.

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession.

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

(Also the Devil decided to leave all you in the dark about my OMG project today in class, because we need to be done in the other group before the last turn-in date. I can't really imagine, that anyone isn't thankful, that they can leave earlier this day than expected ;) )

I'm The Wheel of Fortune it turns out:

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of intoxication with success.

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

Hmn, to be honest, this doesn't mean much to me (I'm certainly lucky and even often happy, but successful??). I probably shouldn't have chosen "I'm interested in a bit of everything" when I'm not really interested in Tarot! But then I couldn't resist doing the test...

Have a safe trip to California and a good time, and don't forget the sea monkeys ;-)!

As well as the almonds in the rice pudding!

Cheers!

I'm Strengh!!!
Courage, strength, fortitude. Power not arrested in the act of judgement, but passing on to further action, sometimes obstinacy.

This is a card of courage and energy. It represents both the Lion's hot, roaring energy, and the Maiden's steadfast will. The innocent Maiden is unafraid, undaunted, and indomitable. In some cards she opens the lion's mouth, in others she shuts it. Either way, she proves that inner strength is more powerful than raw physical strength. That forces can be controlled and used to score a victory is very close to the message of the Chariot, which might be why, in some decks, it is Justice that is card 8 instead of Strength. With strength you can control not only the situation, but yourself. It is a card about anger and impulse management, about creative answers, leadership and maintaining one's personal honor. It can also stand for a steadfast friend.

That figures. Ognycophagia and me have been best friends since I was born. Two months ago I told Ognycophagia it was over and it is over! When you want you can, strengh or not! :-)

Mr. American, yes, it definitely is!

Greg, SF it is...I'll e-mail you closer to the day to work out details. Please bring crow (and don't shave off snowy beard until I've seen it).

Ms. Mood, I have always liked the idea of predicting the future, but am not sure I've ever really believed it is possible to do. And the Wheel of Fortune is perhaps the most open card, which makes it very powerful.

Vesper, someday, I'll probably grow up and become an Empress symbol, but for now I'll make do with the Priestess.

Mr. Heartburn, so does this mean you can't make decisions? That's how I always view this card anyway, that whole if you chose one thing, then you can't then chose other things concept, which I've always had a problem with....

Ms. Black Scorpio, that's one of my perenial favorite cards. And I'm glad you didn't present, because I didn't go to class, and I felt a bit guilty for standing you up! :-o

Marion, you've pulled a beautiful card. And the sea monkeys shipped sometime last week, so will be waiting for me when I get home on Tuesday. Sadly, I tried to order extra goodies, such as vitamins and sea monkey viagra...but you can only do it through mail order, for some reason. Yes, obsession, thy name is kimananda. ;-)

Novel Nymph, welcome! And yes, the almonds in the rice pudding, if they took the quiz, would be lust (which is what strength is called in the Crowley-inspired decks). After all, they are swimming lusciously in cream and pudding. It is delicious!

Fitena, welcome back! And thank you for sharing your condition...I suffer from this as well, but only now have the official term for it. It does take strength to battle this, but I know you can keep it going! I'm sort of battling it, not because of strength, but because of a nagging boyfriend who's made my nails his priority! :-o It's annoying, but it works, sort of.

ya know...I do have a hard time making decisions on a lot of issues, but deeply personal ones. I'm Ok with selfish decisions where I have a tendancy or ability to be more black and white. But when it comes to others, my conviction takes much more than just knowing what I want. I guess that explains all the relationship problems I've had. Thought provoking. I don't even know what I just wrote. It was either stating the obvious long windedly or was a bit druggy.

I like my word verification. moyki.

This was fun, Kimananda! I did the Chinese one and got "the moon" and while it is the planet that rules my Sun Sign, I'm so left-brained that I find it weird to believe that I could have dormant psychic powers and high levels of creativity! Still, it was fun to do! :)

Hello high priestess,
While browsing through your old blogs I came across this test. Of course I had to take the quiz... Don't laugh, I'm the World (universe). Completion, good reward, it says.

"This card is not for little ends, but for big ones, important ones, ones that come with well earned cheers and acknowledgements."

A nice card to get after completing the 2 years in Copenhagen (if that can be called 'a big one'). But of course I had a wise priestess in my surroundings to help me reaching completion!
