Life is a countdown

Have you ever gone through a time when all you do is wait for things to happen? I seem to be getting in that mode. Of course, I mean counting down for the birth, but not only that. Especially because I don't know when that will be.

In the meantime, I'm counting down the time until I'm on maternity leave. The time until I can stop travelling outside the Copenhagen area. The time when I will send my latest phd proposal out (which will look scarily untouched since the last time I sent it). Until the possible midwife strike, at which point, if it happens (and it seems likely that it will), I'll start counting down until when it might be resolved. Until I am able to get all the things I need so that we are totally ready for a newborn in our house. Until I am just too tired to leave the house.

So, is it just me? Are you counting down anything, and if so, what?

Counting down, waiting, is my default mode, so that’s an easy question to answer. I’m doing things, working mostly, that make it look like I’m not waiting. But underneath all the faux forward movement is a sinister script running that effects a perpetual waiting for a glorious opportunity to fall in magnificent splendor from the heavens and directly into my lap! So you are the lucky one, you’re in the humanly normal mode of tentativeness that keeps you company at the precipice of a new phase of life…until you have no choice but to plunge into it, no choice but to learn it and eventually become old hat at it (of course with parenthood I hear tell the years of learning in that case takes up many years)! Oh, sorry...visiting by way of Devil Mood’s site where I’ve enjoyed your keen perceptions, and lately here have been enjoying your daily posts! :-)

I'm counting down to the day I'll be in Denmark again. Which might be this summer so I can hardly wait!

i am couting down. yes. for the rains (the monsoons we call it this part of the world) for a new house.

and for a new reason to come back to the house. after a grimy day of work.

Yes, I am counting down to the birth of something (and this time I'm not talking about your daughter) but, like you, I don't know exactly when it's going to happen. Ah, we just have to wait...

Missalister, welcome! I've been admiring your comments over at both Devil Mood's place and at Phish's, and it's good to see you here. You may look forward to a visit in response in a couple of days, when I'm offically work-free.

I like your characterization of waiting as your default mode. I have the idea that this is the case for everyone, to some extent or other. And I too am waiting for glorious opportunities to fall from the heavens into my lap. So far it hasn't happened, and it doesn't look likely. :-( It'll be interesting to see how parenthood, which of course cannot be planned like that, affects the mix.

Bluefish, that would be great! How long would you be here for?

Phish, a reason to come back to the house after work sounds somehow better than a reason to go back to work after being at home. But why do I suspect that you are looking for reasons for both of these things?

Ms. Mood, now I'm curious! I will be sending you a photo (nothing too exciting, but it goes with the booties...and an e-mail will accompany) when I'm on leave, and will be officially asking you all about it. Consider yourself warned. ;-)

I'm thinking about 3 weeks. It'll be great to be back in DK and visit other sites that I haven't been to.

I also want go to Munich and perhaps go back to Sweden.

Oh thank you! And there I was writing my counting down comment, looking at the ground, twisting a hole in the dirt with the toe of my shoe! Never a warmer welcome, I must say! :-D
Now then, I wanted to confer with you, in the case of Ms. Mood…I needed Pepcid after “Fearless”, the something-funny’s-going-on red flag popped up on seeing her comment above, and my hunchometer screamed its alarm during “what to do with an empty cage.” Swooning head over feather-light heels in love perhaps? The birth of a relationship maybe? She may just be talking about a puppy, but I swear I smell fresh love in the air! Either way, it’s certainly giving my brain a fierce workout! ;-)

lol MissAlister, you're so funny.

Bluefish, 3 weeks is a great amount of time! And I'm curious to find out about Munich. I've never spent any time in Germany (well, I've transfered through both Frankfurt and Dusseldorf airports, but that's it), but have heard good things about both Munich and Berlin.

Missalister, that's an interesting question. Actually, when I read the 'fearless' post, I did wonder what was going on. But the comment left on this post made me think more new project (like Astro Skies, for example) more than a new relationship. But now I wonder. :-/

Ms. Mood, hmmm...did you hear anything? I didn't hear anything. No, no one was speaking behind your back, no, not at all. ;-)

Always counting down for something. Lately? Counting down till my next Rufus concert (figures...), till I finish this job, till we go to Crete. Incidentally, this will all take place in June ;)

I think, though, that I manage to live in the moment too! A lot better than I used to :)

Ms. Mood, I'm glad you're enjoying our speculations!

Scholiast, I'm really making more of an effort to live in the moment, but it isn't easy. But especially when there's a small crying pooping amazing creature living in my house who will be growing and changing so quickly, it'll be a good skill to have. How do you manage to do it?
